James Clavell makes record-breaking book deal

Nothing what-so-ever about Victoriana, but the headline caught my attention. In 1986 he got a record-breaking $5 million in a bidding war for Whirlwind. This was the 5th book in his series that includes Shogun.

Ah, the life of Clavell...if only we could all be so lucky.

A dream is a wish you're heart makes...and a buying editor fulfills.

Yeah, well, at least Clavell has writing credentials that just might make that book deal pay off.

I just read that Tony Blair (former UK Prime Minister) has inked a 5.8m British pounds deal with Random House for his memoirs. Sure, they're bound to be somewhat interesting, but my latest exchange rate (Dec. 31) pegs that at over $11.5 million U.S. dollars.

According to the Guardian Unlimited, "He has found time to write a first 10,000-word chapter."
